Dear Parents and Friends,
We have arrived, so don't worry. The car ride took forever, but we listened to music and played games to make it fun. We ate at Wendy's and stopped at rest stops 3 times. We played the license plate game and we also completed a scavenger hunt. Max lost his phone (sorry mom and dad), while others soaked up the last few hours of social media that they could. When we arrived, we unpacked at the community center. There are very many bunk beds but there is no ladder to get up the beds! We had to turn in our phones, so some had some separation issues. JOKING! We made our way quickly to the elementary school down the road, and played a great game of kickball. The kickball game became very intense and the Goode And Kondo vans won. We came back to nice dinner of chicken nuggets and Despicable Me Minion mac & cheese. At dinner we had to sit next to one of the opposite gender and learn more about them, then share with the group what we learned about the member. This activity helped us learn more about who we were about to spend a week with. Our team leader is Sandy Ting, and we call her Ms. Ting. Our Group consists of Charlotte, Maria, Ian, Max, and Zach. After our team placements, we talked strategy. We came up with great strategies which we can't share outside of our group.... :) Then after the strategy discussion, we competed in our first competition. The competition consisted of a yard of yarn, 18 spaghetti noodles, and a yard of tape, as well as a marshmallow. The challenge was to create the tallest tower with the marshmallow being on the top/the highest point. We had 18 minutes to complete the challenge and whichever team lost had to do the dishes. Ours was doing so well, but then with about 5 seconds left, we all freaked out and all of our pasta/tower BROKE! But....WE DID NOT LOSE! The blue team ended up losing because theirs fell on the floor and it only was measured from the table up. Then we had a few hours of free time, so we playedcards, corn hole, tips, and other games. We found a dog, who we named Shep, but other people named her Muddy. The corn hole games were fun and then we all came in for a shower and then got dressed for night activities. Please, parents - don't worry. We are having fun and are excited to better our community.
P.S. Our team name is The Red Sea.
